BioCollect is the data portal we use to get our Waterwatch data, such as Water Quality Monitoring records, into and out of the Waterwatch database. BioCollect was developed by the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA). The ALA holds our Waterwatch data, keeping it secure, accessible and long-lasting.

The BioCollect app is a portable ALA data collection tool. It can be used to upload your Water Quality Monitoring records in the field, while you are at your Waterwatch site doing your testing.

Using the BioCollect app

Use the same Waterwatch login that you use for the website or you won't be able to upload records.

When you first launch the BioCollect app, select All Projects, search for Waterwatch, then scroll through to find & select your catchment (Cooma Region, Ginninderra Catchment, Molonglo Conservation Group, Southern ACT, or Yass Region).

Your selected Waterwatch catchment will be added to the My Projects list where you can access it in future.

The app will display a list of records for the selected catchment.

Click the + sign at top right of screen to add a record, then select Water Quality Monitoring.

Troubleshooting:

  1. If you have forgotten your Waterwatch database (ALA) password because you clicked "Remember Me":  you should be able to use BioCollect on your computer and log out, then reset your password via the login screen. Then you can write it down and use the new password for the app on your phone (and on your computer).
  2. If you don't have internet access on your phone it may not work.
  3. If you don't have location enabled on your phone it may not work.
  4. If it still isn't working, please stick with paper datasheets and upload your data via the website.
