Since Platypus Month began in 2014, it has grown from strength to strength. Platypus Month 2025 saw us conduct 34 surveys, split evenly between dawn and dusk, at eight sites across the region.
Did you know that August is a great time to see platypus in the ACT region? Waterwatch will be running free guided Platypus walks throughout the month. Group surveys will also be occuring all month and we are looking for volunteers to help monitor these marvelous monotres. Register for a walk or volunteer for a survey now!

Rakali are a cute and clever native animal found anywhere with a permanent water body. Waterwatch encourages everyone to head down to their local waterway any time of year and report their sightings.
